IF you are likely to be spending a few months searching for a property there is a good chance you will cover a good number of kilometres.
And if a lot of this time is spent on the motorways it can be a real pain stopping at every toll-both to pay, especially if you are in a right-hand drive car.
A useful piece of kit that could help you out is the Liber-t automatic payment system, which is a small box that fits to your windscreen.
In it is a sensor that allows you to drive through a special channel, marked with a ‘t’, so that as you approach the booth the barrier rises and your car is registered.
You can join the Liber-t system online at the Sanef website. You pay Euro30 as a deposit for the box and Euro2 a month for the actual use, plus the charges you clock up whilst driving.
It is possible to register a UK address and credit card with the Sanef website, so you could sign up before heading out to France.
And instead of having to queue up, struggle to find change and wind down the window, your credit card is debited and you are off and away.
